Borneo International Kite Festival 2014

This was the 10th time, the kite festival was held in this seaside town of Bintulu from  24th to 28th September 2014. The huge windy open space of the Old Bintulu Airport that faces the South China Sea means ideal consistent flying condition that kiters love. This also explains the four records of magnitude number of kites which have been set since its inception in 2005. The latest being 2,500 diamond kites were flown, forming the longest arch kite tunnel of 500 metres which went into the Malaysia Book of Records.

400 kiters from 24 countries participated at this year’s kite festival. The participating kites are quite unique for its subtle, intriguing and colorful looks and the huge size. Subsequently this festival brings out the cultural diversity and variety of the region through the kite making competitions. The kite flying championship is very competitive as kite fliers from all around the world gather here to showcase their talent.
