Salomavillagestay experience : your Borneo Jungle Adventure
Saloma’s villagestay is located in an authentic Bidayuh village in the heart of the Borneo Rainforest. You will live an immersive experience while staying with her family.
Rich in history & heritage, the State of Sarawak in Malaysia is also known as the Land of The Hornbills. The population comprises local ethnic groups namely Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Melanau and other minor tribes plus Malays, Chinese and Indians living together in harmony for more than a century.
As a whole the Bidayuh are hospitable, humble, trustworthy and friendly people who are not only helpful among themselves but also to other communities in Sarawak.
The Bidayuh pay special attention to the land and soil and indeed treat their surrounding environment with awe, respect & reverence. To the Bidayuh, the land is a source of sustenance and life. Even with the technological advancements & economic developments, the majority of the Bidayuh still adhere to traditional ways of living, especially in the more rural areas where they undertake various agricultural pursuits.
Masters of Bamboo handicraft, the Bidayuh traditionally live in bamboo constructed longhouses. They also produce a wide range of fine bamboo handicrafts ranging from boxes, containers to musical instruments. Bamboo also has many uses in Bidayuh cuisine.
Among the various celebrations held in Malaysia, Gawai Dayak is most celebrated by the Bidayuh, who will wear traditional costumes. Ceremonial offerings of various local delicacies and tuak (home-made rice wine) are made to the gods of rice & prosperity. This unique festival is a must-see event for local and foreign tourists alike.
